Good Vibes Comic Club is back this week, and if you’ve been thinking about joining, this is a great one to jump in. We’ve got a genuinely good group. Thoughtful readers, zero posturing, lots of curiosity, lots of laughs. It’s friendly, inclusive, and very much about enjoying the work rather than proving anything.
The world feels pretty unhinged right now. Everyone’s tired. Everyone’s carrying something. So we figured this was a good moment to get back in a room together, talk about some monthly comics, and remember why we like this medium and each other in the first place.
This month we’re keeping it simple with one book and a deep dive.
🦇 Batman #5
We’re reading Batman #5 by Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez, and it’s a great issue to talk about in a room full of smart people.
Fraction isn’t writing a bombastic event comic here. It’s a date (or not a date) night out for Bruce Wayne. A brilliant scientist, Dr. Annika Zeller, is in the crosshairs of the 000 Gang. Jiménez’s art is slick and expressive, full of motion and mood, and Gotham feels dangerous in that quiet, expensive way where things go wrong fast. It’s real fun.
There’s a lot to chew on here. Perfect for a comeback meeting. We’ll also chat about what we want to do with the group going forward.
