(Is this cool or just me yelling?)
Okay, the definition here is not dictionary level correct but it hits, right?
These little brand design "experiments" are just me jotting down words and phrases I find compelling. Quick, messy, and fast.(Just like my life now that I think about it) I give myself 30 minutes, and if I feel like riffing on David Carson like I did this week, then that’s what Imma do. This one? Snagged the definition from somewhere, snapped a photo in my Berkeley neighborhood, and mashed them together.
Oxford Dictionary says resonance is:
📢 The quality in a sound of being deep, full, and reverberating.
⚛️ In physics, it’s when a sound is reinforced or prolonged by vibrations from a neighboring object.
The quote? Pulled from an Ezra Klein interview with Oliver Berkman on burnout—originally from German theorist Hartmut Rosa. And honestly? The best things (and brands) resonate like this. They make us feel alive.
But let’s be real—the process of making brands often does the opposite. It can be a buzzkill. So, I try to stay hyped, eyes open, karate stance activated. 🥋💥 One of my all-time favorite productivity quotes is from cartoonist Brandon Graham:
“My job isn’t to make comics. My job is to stay psyched to make comics.”
That’s the game. That’s the whole game. Whether you’re designing, writing, or marketing, staying psyched is the real job.
As for this design… is the headline style too much? (I mean the transparency thing. The type is clearly dope.) High energy, but maybe too basic? Should I have gone clean black type instead? What kind of brand would roll with this as a foundational piece? Curious what y’all think. 🤔
