This month’s lineup is a triple-shot of brainy bruisers, blood-soaked carnage, and bold indie weirdness. We’re talking big swings, bigger feelings, and at least one comic where someone gets absolutely demolished for honor. Let’s go:
🔥 Power Fantasy #9 – The comic that asks, “What if Watchmen had better taste in fonts and cooler haircuts?” Kieron Gillen and Caspar Wijngaard are out here weaving geopolitical nightmares with superhero aesthetics, and it rules. Superhumans hover over a dying world, asking if it’s worth saving. Wijngaard’s art? Unfair. Gillen’s writing? Big-brained and high drama. Let’s talk about it.
🔥 Mr. Terrific: Year One #1 – Real talk: I’ve clowned on Mr. Terrific in the past. T-spheres? A jacket that says Fair Play? It’s giving “AP Calculus teacher during Spirit Week.” But this new series is written by someone with a fascinating resume: Al Letson. He’s an emmy-winner, peabody-winner and actual investigative journalist. We are stoked to support a fellow Bay Arean and Cape & Cowl frequenter.
🔥 Battle Beast #1 – If you know, you know. If you don’t, buckle up. Battle Beast is a fight comic with a capital FIST. Blood. Honor. Mayhem. More blood. Battle Beast has always been a fan favorite in the Invincible universe, and now he’s off the leash. Ryan Ottley seems like such a nice guy and yet he draws the most psychotic bloody comic book stuff this side of Geof Darrow. He looked at Invincible and was like “This is nice, Robert and Cory, but it really needs people with eye-balls popping out and gallons of blood on every panel”. My guy draws it all so so so well. I’m stoked for this.
